Awadh Ke Qasbati Rang

This book goes beyond Lucknow - deep into its hinterland to the qasbas of Awadh. Suburbun settlements at some distance from the city, many qasbas predate urban centres. Evolving as centres of Sufi and Bhakti traditions and learning, art forms employing local contexts flourished, plays such as Inder Sabha, folk theatre and Ramila were popular forms of cultural expression. Sufi poets composed in praise of Prophet Mohammad, Hazrat Ali and Lord Krishna, and no festival was celebrated without the participation of people of other faiths.
