About the Artisan:

Kailash Patwa is carrying out the traditional craft of beaded thread jewelry and accessories that has been handed down through 4 generations. He did his Higher Secondary in 1993 and joined his father in the enterprise. He is proud of the fact that his sons (1 is a graduate, the other is a postgraduate) have joined the enterprise, his daughter ( also BA), who is married has also taken the craft forward.

About the Craft:

Charkhi makes Thread and Terracotta Jewellery called Patwa. Patwa is a thread craft which originated in Rajasthan and is now practiced in parts of rajasthan.The word Patwa has been derived from the hindi word “Pat” meaning silk and those involved in the silk and cotton thread are called Patwas. Raw materials used in the making of thread jewelry are different varieties of cotton threads,silk threads and cords, wooden, metal, glass beads, seed beads etc.Products made by Kailash ji are bangles, earrings, bracelets, juda pin, necklace, anklets etc. Kailash has been well exposed to innovate new designs through customer demands in different cities.Over the last 25 years he has participated in several exhibitions across India He also supplies jewelry to showrooms when they place advance orders for which he employs 15-16 assistants for production. He says that participating in exhibitions not only helps him to sell his products, but also exposes him to ideas for innovating designs as per changing consumer demands.
