This biography of the first Indian woman to be principal of a Christian college in India was co-written by Nina David, professor and H.O.D Western History, University of Lucknow and by Dr. Amrita Dass who is an educationist and the founder-director of the Institute for Career Studies, Lucknow. Amrita Dass is the granddaughter of Constance Prem Nath Dass.
Constance Prem Nath Dass was born in 1886 into a well-to-do Punjabi Christian family. She was home-schooled, then studied at schools in Lahore and at Isabella Thoburn College in Lucknow. She did another B.A. (Phi Beta Kappa) at Goucher College (Baltimore) in the United States. Upon returning to India, she taught at Isabella Thoburn College and completed an M.A. in English literature from Allahabad University.
In between an introductory chapter and some concluding reflections and reminiscences are chapters on Dass’s early family and student life, her family life and professional career up to 1938, Her sabbatical in the United States, her principalship, and finally her retirement year in 1945.
