The Pictorial Lucknow

This book, illustrated with sketches, gives a concise account of Awadh (Oude)and of the city of Lucknow, historically, socially, as well as architecturally; these are 3 sections that the book is divided into. In the section of history notices are offered the Muhammadan period, the English period – before and after the Mutiny of 1857. In the section of ethnology, the sub-divided chapters give the descriptions of the citizens of Lucknow, the society, local life, festivals etc. The concluding section describes the archaeology, domestic architecture, the general characteristics, classification of the buildingsand written sketches of the chief buildings and gardens of Lucknow. This book is a reprint of the 1883 edition.
