The Seige of Lucknow by Lady Inglis ,is in the form of a diary and celebrates the role of about 1800 people of which 800 were women who held out at the Residency, Lucknow till the actual relief could reach them, in the Rebellion of 1857 .This little band of people maintained a defence for 87 days, described by General Outram as unaparalled in European history. Lady Inglis was the wife of Major General Inglis who took over command of the Residency after the death of Henry Lawrence.
