Tukdi Shalwar

Tukdi salwar is a traditional Indian garment worn by many Indian people known for its unique design and comfort. It is made by immense love and care by our artisan and the Sanatkada Darzi unit. The salwar is handicrafted and is a true testament to timeless artistry. The piece is adorned with with intricate aari work that goes through all the joints of the piece.

About the Craft: Tukdi craft is a traditional Indian art form that involves creating intricate designs and patterns using small pieces of fabric, paper, or other materials. It's a bit like mosaic work but with fabric!

The word "tukdi" means "piece" or "fragment" in English, reflecting the nature of the craft. Some of the basic variations or types of Tukdi done are- Mahipushth (fish scale) , Barfi (daimond shape) , Chaukor (square) , Tikona ( Triangle) , Lauzat , Honeycomb and Hexagon.

About the Artisan : Asma Umar is a well-known Tukdi artist who has been practicing this traditional craft for over 30 years. She is based in Lucknow and is known for her neat work and the passion she brings to it. Ghararas made by her are worn at many big weddings all around.

About the Sanatkada Darzi : The Darzi unit at Sanatkada comprises of five members- Naseer Alam, Santosh, Parul, Asma and Poonam who give their best in stitching your favourite handicrafted piece. You can get anything right from suits, blouses, dresses, trousers, kids wear to cushion covers, batuas etc.

Product Care: Gentle hand wash separately in cold water with mild/liquid detergents. Avoid soaking for too long and dry in shade.
