Jola is as a unit to make footwear started in 2017by Shubendu, who was interested in re-shapingshoes to make them more attractive by painting the uppers with colourful designs. He thought that if T shirts could be personalised, why not shoes. He got together a group of 12 artist friends to paint the uppers of shoes and started marketing them through the internet. This enterprise was more engaging and creative for him, so he decided to quit his bank job and do this full time. His team turns out designs on about 4000-4500 pairs of footwear a month. In fact, "COVID 19 was a blessing" for him as the demand for footwear increased due to online purchases. He feels his product is special as the footwear is handmade and hand painted, from a range of 140-150 designs and special designs for buyers on request. He has been coming to Sanatkada for the last three years and feels a special bond with the festival, "Sanatkada Festival is not just a space for selling products, but a community of artists who come together for also sharing their lives and their creativity".
