ANWESHA TRIBAL ARTS AND CRAFT-

Anwesha Tribal Arts & Crafts, a non-governmental handicrafts development organization was established in 1990 in Odisha. It has been working for the disadvantaged and marginalised communities of society. Initially, it conducted training, consultancy, documentation and research aiming at enhancing the standard of social work practice. The work by Anwesha Tribal Arts and Crafts has special concentration in tribal sub-plan areas to retain and develop the rich cultural heritage of tribal arts through community empowerment and developing sustainable income sources. It is an attempt at halting the disintegration of the tribal community and their heritage.

Although there are a number of tribal handicrafts products developed by ANWESHA, the most popular has been tribal Dhokra art for crafting jewellery and artifacts. DHOKRA (also spelt as Dokra) is non–ferrous metal casting using the lost-wax casting technique. This sort of metal casting has been used in India for over 4,000 years and is still used. One of the earliest known lost-wax artefacts is the dancing girl of Mohenjodaro.
