THE LAKSH FOUNDATION began with a simple vision to empower local communities through improved literacy and skills training. Since 2007, they have worked towards creating a new approach to education. Around 1000 children from low-income families are now enrolled into our Education Programme across a network of 6 Learning Centers which offer valuable tutorial support to the local government schools.

Their team is made up of a Programme Coordinator who holds a Master’s degree in Education and has prior NGO experience, and two Programme Consultants. Their trainee teaching team comprises 45 individuals from the rural communities we work within. These individuals receive support in completing both their secondary and higher education, as well as skills training, mentoring and career counseling with partners and volunteers from all over the world.

Outside of the classroom, they run a Women's Cooperative, where in local women are given training in sewing, embroidery and other crafts - all of which are sold under the Laksh label. They are now delighted that their Laksh jackets, Patch work, bed covers, bags and salwars are being sold online on the exclusive Jaypore website as well as at local craft melas, bazaars and markets. They are constantly challenging the issue of waste and pollution and run many education initiatives within the communities on waste management, recycling and environmental sustainability.
