Virsa Women Craft is a group that has lately evolved for and by around 200 women artisans of Punjab representing 12 villages of two districts Ferozepur and Amritsar. These artisans have been supported by a group of designers to rejuvenate six crafts namely Panja durries, azarband weaving, charpai weaving, pankhi making, embroidery and crochet. They work on handwoven furniture inspired from manjhi weaving, cotton durries and cotton neck pieces inspired from the azarband weaving technique of Punjab.
They are a women-owned company located in Firozpur and Amritsar, Punjab manufacturing handcrafted home furnishings and lifestyle products. These women artisans from each village were developed in the form of village-level producer groups followed by a central group. They were supported by Dastkar for marketing of their products and providing counsel for product progress. They envisioned that their efforts will culminate into a self-run lifestyle products company with its own unique retail brand, reviving and selling high quality woven rugs, furniture and Phulkari based unique pieces.
