Soof Embroidery has been working for the past 40 years under the guidance of Dayaben Dohat. She is a National Award Winner and a traditional artisans of Kutch craft, she learned this embroidery from her mother when she was young. Later she joined her father in his NGO named Kala Raksha based in KUTCH. After her marriage she started her own organization Soof Embroidery.

Soof embroidery is famous for hand crafted bags with Kutch embroidery.They make products like Bags, Sarees, Stoles etc. The Kutch embroidery practiced normally by women is generally done on fabrics like Cotton, Matka Silk, Linen and Woolen fabric., in the form of a net using cotton or silk threads. Kutch embroidery includes thread and mirror work embroidery. Fabrics are placed inside the frames to do embroidery with needle and threads. The types of stitches adopted are “square chain, double buttonhole, pattern darning, running stitch, satin and straight stitches”. The signature effect of the colorful embroidery sparkles when small mirrors called ‘abhla’ are sewn over the geometrically shaped designs.Kutch embroidery is mainly done in colors such as Green, Ivory, Indigo, Black, Deep red, Yellow and off White. This embroidery is also influenced by romantic motifs , flower motifs as well as patterns of human figurines in dancing poses and dancing peacocks are traditionally made.

Kutch embroidery takes 3 to 4 days in making of bag’s embroidery and then tassel and dori are added during the time of stitching and during the process of Saree’s making it consumes 3 months to 15 months as per design for a saree to prepare.Its a time taking process, colorful cotton threads make the embroidery look rich in craft and give a taste of Kutch Craft.
