MARM as a label was conceptualized and established in 2015 by Anoop Kumar Rai, a textile design graduate from NIFT, New Delhi. The primary focus of Marm is to revive Chanderi fabric, bringing it to a larger clientele by designing, weaving, finishing and marketing under one umbrella.
Marm has developed its own signature style of combining handwoven Chanderi fabric with prints in bold and fresh colors. Chanderi fabric is known for centuries for its transparency, butis and sheer texture. The yarn used to weave Chanderi fabric doesn't go through the degumming process to prevent breakage during weaving, giving the fabric its unique shine and texture.Chanderi fabric is produced by weaving silk and golden zari in cotton yarn that results in the creation of a shimmery texture. The buttis and motifs on Chanderi fabric are primarily hand woven on handloom with needles. Each product is carefully handcrafted by the artisans using the finest yarn through the process of dyeing, weaving and finishing.
The fusion of Chanderi fabric and print has brought it a wider market than the regular version. Marm is a brand with a philosophy to promote hand-woven textiles into contemporary fashion styles using unique fabric blend and contemporary motifs and textures. Inspired by elements, each individual concept reflects an amalgamation of unique style, high quality material, distinctive design and impeccable craft. The result is a special product in the form of Dupatta, stoles and saree.
